Does acupuncture work for facial rejuvenation? If yes, how many treatments do you typically need to see results?

Acupuncture has been used for facial rejuvenation recently. However, there is no scientific evaluation of the effect of acupuncture for this. Therefore, most of claims are the acupuncturist's personal experiences. You should discuss with your acupuncturist and may want to try a few treatments to see what you feel. You will usually feel good right after the treatment, but the results may not be long term.

I have a question regarding the use of ear pellets for ear acupuncture to suppress appetite. Do stainless steel, silver and gold pellets have the same effects? Or, would gold suppress and silver stimulate the points related to organs such as the stomach and sensations such as hunger?

Unfortunately, there is no research data so far to compare the effectiveness among these different materials on ear acupressure. This the best I can give you: If the effect of the treatment is due to the pressure from these seeds, these different materials should have no different effect. However, some acupuncturists believe gold seeds are the best.

I have had acupunture to treat a lower back sprain. After my first visit, pain and a tingling sensation persists where a needle was in my hand and near where a needle was in the back of my knee. After the second visit, the pain and tingling has lessoned in my calf muscle but continues in my hand. Is this normal and is it likely to go away?

Yes, it is likely to go away. It may due to a too strong needle manupilation/stimulation on these acupuncture points. You may take a few over the accounter non-steroid anti inflammatory drug such as Advil which may help recover sooner.

I received acupuncture for the first time today for pain releive from scoliosis. I was wondering if it is usual to experience uncomfortable pain in this area.

Acupuncture is known sometimes to aggravate the pain before it gets better, particularly after the first treatment. You should discuss with your acupuncturist and let them know your response. They may adjust the treatment's intensity when you see them next time.

About 45 minutes after her first acupuncture treatment, my wife experienced a loss of bladder control. Is this a common occurence, or have you ever heard of it?

No, it is not commonly seen. However, I see many patients feel urination urgency after treatment. I usually suggest these patient to go to restroom first before the treatment. You may ask your wife to do the same next time. I also wonder if your wife has a history of urinary incontinence before. If so, she needs to let her acupuncturist know.

I have cervical spondylosis and neck pain. mri states disc bulges C5/6 and 6/7 with no canal stenosis but with foraminal stenosis. Can accupuncture help in preventing furhter damage and/or just treat the occasional pain?

Acupuncture has been shown to treat neck pain, but it is unknown whether it can prevent the disease or not. I believe you need to combine other therapies such as physical therapy to strengthen the muscle after the pain relief from acupuncture, in order to prevent further damage.
