What can one do to reduce a hyperthyroidism condition? What effect does it have on an unborn baby?

There are multiple therapies for overactive thyroid, including pills, Radioactive iodine ( not given during pregnancy) and surgery. Hyperthyroidism should be treated at all times, esp during pregnancy as it can be transmitted to baby ( through transfer of antibodies through placenta). This leads to multiple complications to mom and baby before delivery including premature delivery, intrauterine fetal demise, placenta abruptio and transient hyperthyroidism in baby at birth.
